The challenge

"Pro" and "anti" say too little about what people think of the EU

The European Union is debated daily, but under two labels. Beneath them, different things get mixed up: how much decision-making you want kept at national level, and what makes you judge it that way — a question of identity or an economic calculation.

What we built

Two axes, five typologies, the same method as Busola Media

The study sits on Busola Media’s architecture, with a new set of 15 statements. Answers place the respondent on two axes — integration–sovereignty and economic calculation–identity — and in one of five typologies: the Sentinel, the Accountant, the Builder, the Pragmatist or the Balance.

What came out

A national study, run alongside Busola Media

The project runs at Babeș-Bolyai University, with the same team, as Busola Media’s companion study. The two platforms point to each other, so data on media consumption and on attitudes to the EU can be read together.
